Kings Super Markets Implements the Guiding Star Rating System

February 17, 2010 - With 23 stores in New Jersey, Kings Super Markets has begun implementing the Guiding Star Rating System for food nutritional value. Guiding Stars rates food based on nutrient density using a scientific algorithm. Rated foods are marked with tags indicating 0, 1, 2, or 3 stars. The more nutritional value a food has, the more Guiding Stars it receives. If a food doesn’t receive a star – it means it doesn’t meet the Guiding Star criteria.

Marshall Faces Challenges at A&P

Taking the reins of the company just after its reported $500M+ loss means that aggressive cost cutting may be the order of the day. A&P Secures Loan to Open Atlantic City Store

January 14, 2010 - Just after reporting a $500 million loss for the fiscal 3rd quarter A&P announced that is has secured a $1 million loan from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority to aid in opening a new store in Atlantic City. The low-interest loan is the first under a program intended to promote the development of supermarkets in areas of the state with limited access to food stores. A&P will convert a 30,500 square foot facility into a Food Basics branded supermarket using the loan and additional monies totalling $2.635 million.
